He has practiced for more than fifteen years and currently serves as general counsel at TQA and managing partner of Wardel Law. Earlier he was general counsel at Simplus and chief legal officer at nClouds, both technology companies operating in environments where data handling obligations were a live commercial constraint rather than a formality. Earlier still he clerked in federal court. Utah Business named him In-House Counsel of the Year in 2020.
The questions he handles are the ones that surface late and expensively: who owns the output, what the vendor agreement actually permits, whether a data flow crosses a boundary it should not, and what happens when a regulator or a counterparty asks how a decision was reached. Answering those before a system is built is considerably cheaper than answering them after.
