Steve Larsen is managing director at Talbot West. He works at the point where a technology decision becomes a budget decision.

His career spans thirty years across pharmaceutical, healthcare, big data, and SaaS organizations, including Johnson & Johnson, McKesson, Whatfix, and LearnUpon. Most of that was spent bringing complex technical products into enterprises that were not structured to absorb them. That is a different problem from building the product, and it is the one that sinks most initiatives.

He is trained in value engineering at Cornell, a discipline concerned with quantifying what a change is actually worth to the organization making it. Applied to AI programs, that means insisting on a defensible number before the work starts rather than a benefit narrative assembled afterward.

At Talbot West he is typically the first point of contact for organizations that know something needs to change but have not yet defined the scope of it.

A defensible number before the work starts, not a narrative after it.
